Job Duties, including but not limited to:

  • Conducts rounds, discusses and monitors infection prevention practices with staff members, collects infection data from departments, maintains records for each case of healthcare- associated infection, conducts outbreak investigation, trains staff members on implementation of infection prevention practices, investigates incidents of infections and reports such incidents to the appropriate person/department, and ensures availability of supplies required for infection prevention activities.
  • Develops the annual Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA); prioritizes according to the level of probability and potential for harm. Coordinates ICRA development with other team members, including the IPCF Chair, IPCF members, Public Health (PH) and others as needed.
  • Develops and coordinates the annual Infection Prevention and Control Program Plan (IPCPP) based upon the approved ICRA prioritized list. Updates the IPCPP as needed throughout the year.
  • Develops and coordinates the IPCP Annual Summary that describes all activities in the IPCPP. The summary shall include a general discussion, actions taken and resolution. Unresolved items must be carried over to the next IPCP Annual Summary. All program documents shall be accomplished in a timely manner; clear suspenses for the completion of each document IPCPP—shall be signed by the Commander or designee and shall be in place 30 days following the close out of the reporting year.
  • Contractor employees shall maintain active memberships in the following groups: Safety or Environment of Care Committee, Product Evaluation Committee, Patient Safety Committee, Space Utilization Committee, Medical Readiness Staff Function, Nursing Executive Function, and Executive Committee of the Medical Staff (ECOMS).
  • Applies epidemiologic principles and statistical methods to break the chain of infection and improve IPC efforts.
  • Identifies epidemiologically significant organisms for immediate review and investigation and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, county/state public health departments, and when necessary, in consultation with the AF/SG IP Consultant, AFMOA IP and the CDC.
  • Educates staff on Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDROs) and on optimal and prudent use of antimicrobials. Coordinates interprofessional effort to improve antimicrobial stewardship through education.
  • Consults with Aerospace Medicine on development of exposure control plans.
  • Advises leadership and staff on identifying relevant improvement opportunities and utilizes Performance Improvement (PI) tools; e.g., Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA), Lean Six Sigma, to improve performance and outcomes.
  • Advocates, influences, motivates, and persuades leadership and staff to consistently incorporate IPC guidelines and standards throughout the facility

Education: Completion of the following is required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing(preferred), Public Health, Epidemiology or Microbiology from a nationally recognized accredited college program.

Experience: Candidates must have the following experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of current experience in infection prevention and control performed within the past four (4) years. Exceptions to this requirement may be considered on a case-by-case basis

Security:

Candidates subject to:

  • National Background Investigation
  • Drug Screening
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work site
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

License/Certification and Training: Candidates must have the following:

  • Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) Certification. The contractor employee shall maintain certification throughout the performance of the contract. Exceptions may be made to approve employees without certification in coordination with the COR/CO. However, any exempted employee shall attain certification within six (6) months of assignment.
  • Registered Nurse: Must possess a current, valid and unrestricted registered nursing license as applicable, in one of the 50 states and/or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or territories of the United States.

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm (may be adjusted to meet mission requirements)
  • No Federal Holidays required
