 Job Duties, including but not limited to:

  • Perform a full range of pharmacy technician procedures.
  • Perform pharmaceutical dispensing duties including filling new outpatient prescriptions, refilling prescriptions, and entering orders into databases.
  • Perform information consultation duties including supporting new and refill prescriptions supporting patient requests, supporting physician’s requests, monitoring for drug interactions, and reporting adverse drug reactions.
  • Perform quality improvement duties including performing drug storage inspection, reviewing expired supplies, and producing error and workload reports and documentation.
  • Perform supply process duties including placing new orders stocking/restocking shelves, inventory maintenance, producing not in stock reports.
  • Shall possess a working knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, common drugs, medication dosage forms, storage and security requirements for drugs, and the operation of common pharmacy equipment.
  • Shall possess extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals to include therapeutics, dosage, nomenclature, side effects, interactions and incompatibilities. Must be intimately familiar with all aspects of the Outpatient and Inpatient Drug Distribution System.
  • Shall receive and interpret outpatient prescriptions or inpatient medication orders. Assist pharmacist in selecting and preparing medications.
  • Shall maintain necessary prescriptions files and other records in accordance with applicable regulations and standard operating procedures
  • Shall maintain thorough familiarity with the MTF therapeutic formulary, dispensing policies, and requirements for eligibility for care.

  • Shall be accountable for all controlled substances dispensed to the single tablet, capsule or similar unit.
  • Shall provide drug information to other health care professionals and patients when requested.
  • Shall display a helpful, courteous manner to patients explaining options and recommending solutions based on facts.
  • Shall utilize the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and MHW Genesis. The Government will provide training in the use of this system and any other Automated Dispensable System (ADP) system implemented by the US Army.
  • Shall have sufficient skills to complete all required paperwork, utilize paraprofessionals as appropriate and perform documentation and patient care in accordance with the JC guidelines.
  • Shall assume additional administrative or clinical duties as requested or needed to ensure sustainment of normal clinic operations and ensure compliance with the Joint Commission (JC) standards, to include but no limited to performing clinic and ward inspections, monitoring clinic supplies and equipment ensuring enforcement of clinic Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and standards, conducting monthly peer review and attending staff meetings.
  • Shall be knowledgeable of Quality Improvement responsibilities which include upholding established patient care and practice standards, review and submit reports as required, and participate in all mandatory training.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Provide three letters of recommendation from practicing Pharmacists or pharmacy supervisors attesting to his/her professional skills, competencies, patient rapport, etc.  Reference letters must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference.  Letters of reference must have been written within the preceding year.


  • Certificate/ Graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy services training program of the United States Military.


  • One year of experience as a pharmacy technician after graduation

Board Certification:

  • Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)


  • 7:30 am – 4:30 pm,
  • 8:30 am – 5:00 pm,
  • 9:30 am - 6:30 pm
  •  A regular scheduled duty week will not exceed 40 hours.
  • Duty hours for Pharmacy Technicians consists of eight (8) hour shifts as specified by the individual clinic.
  • The meal breaks may vary from a thirty (30) minute to one (1) hour period per shift, but this constitutes a non-paid break.
